It does not use fonts. Every style is built from real Unicode characters — superscript letters like ᵃ ᵇ ᶜ, small capitals like ᴀ ʙ ᴄ, and Mathematical Alphanumeric symbols. Because they are characters rather than formatting, they survive copy and paste anywhere.

Unicode never defined a complete small alphabet. There is no superscript q and only 17 of 26 letters have subscript forms, so the closest look-alike character stands in. That is why a letter like q can look different from the rest of the word.

Yes, in the places that take free text: bios, captions, comments, chat messages and display names. Account handles are the exception — the @name you sign in with is usually restricted to plain letters, digits and a couple of punctuation marks, so it will reject these characters no matter which style you pick. Put small text in your display name and bio instead.

Two ways. Inside messages, Discord has its own markdown: start a new line with -# followed by a space and that line becomes smaller grey subtext — one size only, whole lines only. Everywhere markdown does not reach — usernames, nicknames, channel names, About Me — paste Unicode small text from this generator instead. It is plain text, so it works in any field that accepts typing.

Small text will not get you the handle itself. Instagram handles, Xbox gamertags and PlayStation online IDs are all restricted to plain letters and digits, so a converted name is rejected before it is even checked against what is taken. What it does change is the display name shown above the handle, which most platforms leave open to any text — a small caps version of the name you wanted still reads as yours there. The trade-off is that an exotic name is harder for friends to type into a search bar.

Because the name field rejects the characters, not because the keyboard cannot paste. Xbox publishes the exact character ranges a gamertag may use, and none of the styles on this page fall inside them; PlayStation online IDs are limited to letters, digits, hyphens and underscores in the same way. Changing the name on the platform website will not get around it. In-game display names are a separate thing and vary game by game — some accept small caps, many do not, so expect trial and error there.

Small caps are miniature capital letters that sit on the normal line (ᴛɪɴʏ); they were adopted into Unicode from phonetic alphabets, which is why they render on more devices than any other small style. Superscript characters are raised above the line (ᵗⁱⁿʸ) and subscript characters sit below it (ₜᵢₙᵧ). All three copy and paste the same way — pick whichever look fits your bio or nickname.
